What’s my motivation for making this change to how we approach your health? 

Through my 20 years in medicine, I have witnessed many changes in healthcare. Some for the better, some for the worse and others that just made no sense at all. Insurance companies have made it so that a provider seeing you will only be reimbursed for seeing you for approximately 10-15 minutes no matter how long it is that they sit with you. If your provider wants to really get to know you and what it is that is affecting you and your life style, your provider will either have to forego that information or accept that they will not be compensated for their time and expenses. Emergency rooms are even worse. There are metrics and criteria (such as how fast you get a patient seen and out the door) that are expected to be fulfilled so that the administration can still get their bonuses and the actual quality of the patient interactions and care are hardly even on the spectrum of concern. Their directive is to sit down with your patient but don’t take longer than 10 minutes and get them out the door in under 90 minutes or your pay will be impacted. If they are dissatisfied with that service, the provider will be reprimanded. This system is broken and in not in the best health interests of your health but to the monetary benefit of the hospital systems.
