Unlocking Wellness: Jules Brown's Inspirational Journey to Vibrant Health and Happiness

In life, there are times when our wellness takes a backseat. We may find ourselves dealing with fatigue, weight gain, and an overall sense of unwellness. In the search for answers, many of us embark on journeys to regain our health, looking for solutions to our physical and emotional struggles. Julez Brown, a busy mom of four children, faced a similar situation, and her quest to reclaim her health led her to New Era Wellness.

The Frustration of a Five-Year Battle:

Julez had been wrestling with her health for five long years. Despite her dedication to workouts and what she considered a decent diet, she was perplexed by the relentless weight gain and fatigue that seemed to have settled into her life. It was a frustrating and discouraging journey, as she described feeling awful, unhappy, and unwilling to enjoy life's simple pleasures, such as donning a bathing suit or putting on something cute during the summertime. It was affecting not only her self-esteem but also her relationships, including her marriage.

           Desperation and Unfruitful Efforts:

The frustration led to desperation. Julez tried various medical solutions. She visited different doctors, underwent numerous tests, and followed a succession of advice and treatments, but none seemed to address the root cause of her health issues. In a bid to find relief, she even resorted to pills and shots, but these solutions offered nothing more than temporary Band-Aids. It became a costly and disheartening journey for Jules, who was on the verge of giving up.

           A Turning Point:

Just when she was about to lose hope, Jules received a suggestion that would change her life. The owner of her gym, who was well-acquainted with New Era Wellness, recommended that she give it a try. This holistic wellness center was renowned for its approach to healthcare and its commitment to addressing the root causes of health issues.

           Prayer and Hope:

Despite initial hesitation, Julez decided to give it a chance. Before even walking through the doors of New Era Wellness, she felt a sense of warmth and care, a stark contrast to her previous experiences. Jules felt genuinely seen and heard, a far cry from her previous encounters with health professionals. This alone was a promising start.

           A Welcoming Environment:

Upon her arrival at New Era Wellness, Julez experienced the kind and supportive environment that she had been seeking throughout her health journey. The compassionate reception she received from the staff was unlike anything she had encountered before. They took the time to listen and understand her unique situation, treating her as an individual rather than a mere number.

           A Comprehensive Approach:

At New Era Wellness, Julez underwent extensive bloodwork that helped reveal the real underlying issues affecting her health. This holistic approach allowed her to get to the root of her health problems, rather than merely addressing symptoms. It was a turning point in her journey.

           Conclusion:

Julez's story serves as a reminder that the path to wellness is not always straightforward, and sometimes, it requires exploring unconventional routes. In her case, the frustrations and disappointments of a five-year battle with unexplained health issues eventually led her to New Era Wellness, where she found the care, understanding, and holistic solutions she had been searching for. Her story serves as an inspiration for anyone facing similar struggles, illustrating the importance of persistence, hope, and finding the right path towards renewed health and vitality. New Era Wellness offers not only healthcare but a holistic approach to wellness, providing people with the opportunity to reclaim their lives and well-being. If you're on your wellness journey, consider the significance of addressing the root cause of your health issues, just like Julez did.

Health Tip Of The Month: Ozone Therapy - Volume I Issue #2

           What is Ozone Therapy?

There are many people who ask what ozone is’ “Isn’t that just a hole in the atmosphere?” and “what is sooo good about ozone”! Well, yes, there is a hole in the atmosphere but that isn’t what we are referring to. Ozone is a powerful antioxidant. Just to give you an idea, ozone is

            3,000 times faster

than chlorine to purify water!! Ozone can kill bacteria, fungi, viruses and leap a building in a single bound. (That last part is Superman reference just in case you missed it).

Ozone was first used for medicinal purposes by Nichola Tesla in 1900!! So, it has been around for a very long time (That guy was super nerdy! Love it!). There have been at least 10 major books and over 1,700 studies over the last 20 yrs to substantiate use and protocols for ozone use.

Ozone can help your body decrease inflammation, fight against bacterial, fungal and viral infections; detoxify your body from all of the toxins that we ingest and are exposed to everyday; correct and activate metabolic processes in the liver and kidneys to help you work more efficiently!

How is ozone administered?

There are a few options autohemotherapy (IV), rectal insufflation (Yup, the ‘ol poop shoot), limb bag, vaginal insufflation (good for UTIs and vaginal infections), nose/ears insufflation (great for allergies!).

Who would benefit from ozone therapy?

Those with autoimmune disease (Fibromyalgia, lupus, RA, SM, Raynaud’s disease), circulatory conditions (neuropathy, PVD), skin disorders (eczema, rosacea, psoriasis), viral infections (Mononucleosis, herpes, hepatitis), bacterial infections (wound infections, pneumonia, peritonitis), respiratory diseases, joint pain, inflammatory conditions (colitis, arthritis, bursitis, IBS, iritis). This list is not exhaustive but these are just a few examples.

“We don’t know how bad we feel until we feel better!”

With any medical therapy there are those who would not be good candidates for ozone therapy (it’s a bummer but true). Those with blood coagulation problems, bleeding organs, an allergy to ozone, strokes, recent heart attack, intoxicated, pregnant or have a G6PD deficiency (I can tell you all about this if you are curious. It’s a quick story, I promise.).

There are ways that ozone is dangerous. DO NOT BREATHE IT DIRECTLY INTO YOUR LUNGS. It is caustic to your lung tissue.

           This is not

a therapy to directly inject into your veins either! Don’t let anyone try to convince you that this is a safe alternative.

What exactly is an “O Shot”? An “O Shot” (or Ohhhh Shot) is when would draw one tube of blood from you, spin it down for the plasma rich proteins and your own stem cells and inject them into your Clitoris and vulva

(also known as the “G-Spot”. Are you noticing a trend here?). “You put that where?!!” Yes, you’ve read correctly. Your clitoris and your G-Spot (if you are a female that is). For men a similar shot is call a “P-Shot” (‘P’ for Penis.. you can insert your own word if you like! We have fun with this little game too).

If you have problems with urinary incontinence, decreased sensitivity to stimulation (don’t be embarrassed, this is perfectly normal and happens with age. You didn’t over use it or break it), loose skin or painful intercourse (we medical nerds call this dyspareunia). This procedure may be for you.

The benefits of a O-Shot are that this effective in treating urinary incontinence (you won’t say ‘ahh man, you made me ink’ anymore and you won’t have to sneeze with your legs crossed either!) The O-Shot can help tighten vagina skin (we can also inject the PRP in the labia to make them fuller or you can even consider filler (we use Volluma and Hyaluronic acid) in the labia to help make them plump again)

. This procedure can also help with more frequent orgasms, increased sensitivity, increased ability to experience the “G-spot” orgasm, improved vaginal dryness, healthy tissue growth and improved overall health of your girly parts resulting in more enjoyable sex, not painful! Your partner is going to want to put us on their Christmas card list!!

This procedure is relatively painless and you can enjoy results in days!

Complications with this procedure are rare because you are being injected with your own PRP. The results generally last anywhere between 1-4 yrs and typically our patients opt for re-treatment when the results fade. Honestly, who wouldn’t opt for better sex?!

Vitamin D

           Vitamin D

What does vitamin D actually do in our bodies?

Vitamin D is a vitamin that your body needs to build and maintain healthy bones. Without vitamin D in our system, we CAN’T absorb vitamin C, a primary component of healthy bones. It’s anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant and neuroprotective properties support immune health muscle function and brain activity. It may even help prevent some cancers but more studies are needed to prove this.

What are symptoms of low vitamin D?

Some of the symptoms of low vitamin D are fatigue, bone pain, muscle aches, muscle cramps, depression, rickets (results in weak or soft bones). If you have a vitamin D deficiency the parathyroid glands will ‘borrow’ calcium from the skeleton in order to keep the blood calcium in the normal range. The amount of vitamin D your skin makes depends on many factors, including the time of day, season, latitude and your skin pigmentation. Fair skinned individuals and those that are younger convert far better than those who are dark skinned or over 50 yrs old. Depending on where you live and your lifestyle, vitamin D production might decrease or be completely absent during the winter months. Sunscreen, while important to prevent skin cancer, also can decrease vitamin D production.

What are some natural sources of D?

Natural vitamin D is not found in many foods except fatty fish such as salmon, mackerel and sardines. You can also get vitamin D from DIRECT sunlight but see above regarding absorption.

What are side effects of high vitamin D?

High vitamin D levels are rare and typically result from taking too much supplementation. High Vitamin D levels can result in high calcium levels that will cause nausea, vomiting and frequent urination. Other symptoms are weakness, high blood pressure, kidney injury and kidney stones.

Medications that can affect vitamin D absorption:

           Anticonvulsants Lipitor Dovonex/sorilux

           Prevalite Cytochrome P-450 3A4 (CYP3A4) substrates

           VITAMIN B12

What does vitamin B12 actually do in our bodies?

Vitamin B12 does many things in our bodies. It is essential for the formation of our red blood cells, cell metabolism, nerve function and DNA production.

What are symptoms of low B12?

Some of the symptoms of low B12 levels include anemia (found on your blood work), muscle weakness, fatigue, nerve damage, intestinal problems, mood disturbances and there are some links between low B12 levels and dementia. However, studies have been unclear if supplementation will help prevent or treat dementia. Also, studies have not shown to boost your energy or make you a better athlete unless you have a deficiency. A vitamin B12 deficiency is uncommon in the US.

What are some natural sources of B12?

You can find vitamin B12 mostly in meat sources such as poultry, beef, fish and dairy. You can also find B12 in fortified food sources such as fortified cereals.

What are side effects of high vitamin B12?

High vitamin B12 levels can result in headaches, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue, weakness and tingling sensations in your hands and feet. It can also result in acne and rosacea out breaks. The excess vitamin B12 is excreted in your urine.

Medications that can affect vitamin B12 absorption:

Paser (Aminosalicylic acid) Colchicine (for gout)

Metformin (for diabetes) Priolec/Prevacid (for GERD)

           Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) supplements

Taking vitamin B-12 with vitamin C might reduce the available amount of vitamin B-12 in your body. To avoid this interaction, take vitamin C two or more hours after taking a vitamin B-12 supplement.

            G6PD Deficiency

G6PD deficiency is an inborn error of metabolism that predisposes to red blood cell breakdown

. What does that mean in English? It means that this is a genetic mutation that, when triggered, can result in your red blood cells breaking down or “blowing up”. Notice I said “when triggered” Most of those who have a G6PD deficiency have NO SYMPTOMS and often never do. This deficiency most often occurs in males more than females and typically those of Mediterranean, Asian or African decent. It is important to note that this IS NOT A food allergy. This condition was found to be strongly protective against malaria.

What can cause a “trigger” for one to have symptoms?

There are environmental stressors such as stress; there are also some medications or foods that can also cause trigger an episode/crisis as well as infections.

What foods or medications can trigger an episode or crisis?

Foods such as falafel and fava beans (aka. Broad beans) have been found to trigger a crisis. Medications that have been found to trigger an episode have been primaquine, quinines, aspirin, high doses of vitamin C and antimalarial medications. One other thing found to trigger a response, oddly, is moth balls.

What are symptoms of an episode or crisis?

Some of the symptoms that can been seen with an G6PD crisis would be jaundice (yellow skin), shortness of breath, dark urine and fatigue. If you have a G6PD deficiency and have these symptoms you should seek out immediate medical attention.

The advantage of pellets as a treatment method is that the patient only needs to go into a medical office for the procedure 4 times per year as the pellets generally last 90 days before being completely absorbed by the body and needing to be replaced.

When low testosterone is provided by pellets, a small incision is made typically in the hip, and a number of pellets are placed under the skin normally under local anesthetic.

One danger of pellets is, like any surgical procedure, the insertion site could become infected, and/or the pellets could be rejected. Even if there are no problems with the site, each person absorbs the pellets at a different rate and if symptoms aren’t resolved, or side effects occur, the ability of the medical team to make an adjustment in dosage is generally mitigated until the next round of pellets are inserted. The patient must generally wait until the pellets have been completely absorbed before the medical team can attempt a higher or lower dose, which again can be up to three months away.

Contrarily, low t shots are quick and relatively painless. They do not carry the same risk of site infection as pellets, and the medical team has the ability to adjust dosage every 7 days to resolve symptoms and side effects.

For these reasons, at New Era Wellness Center, the medical team believes that testosterone replacement therapy injections are the superior way to provide you with bioidentical hormones. These hormone injections work the same way that your body’s naturally produced testosterone would. Injections have been proven to be clinically effective, offering us the most control over your dosage along with the opportunity to monitor how they are affecting you. Each time you come in for an injection, we can also address any issues or concerns you may have.

It is of no surprise the importance of oxygen to our every biological function. It is our most critical essential nutrient. In the air we breath, oxygen exists in its most stable form, as two molecules – O2. When extreme energy is applied, such as during a lightning storm, the oxygen molecules break apart and reconfigure into a less stable, “supercharged” form of three oxygen molecules – O3, better known as ozone. Clinically, we use ozone generators to activate oxygen and create the ozone. When introduced into your body, the ozone interacts with your own bio-molecules, converting them into ozonides which have remarkable therapeutic properties that last for days and often weeks. In this way, ozone therapy both stimulates and stabilizes biological functions rather than suppressing them, and induces innate healing, balance and well-being. This truly unique trait of ozone allows it to be non-specific, working with your own complex, biochemical and physiological processes to improve, if not eliminate a wide range of symptoms and conditions, both chronic and acute.

Medical administration of ozone has been around since World War I, when German doctors used ozone to disinfect wounds of soldiers in the trenches. There are varying ideas about how long ozone has been in use strictly as a therapy, but the potential medical implications are many: ranging from treatment of diseases to prevention of sickness to wound treatment to anti-aging and skincare. The most common and well-known type of administration is ozonated autohemotherapy, where blood is drawn, injected with ozone and replaced via IV. This allows ozone to enter the bloodstream and affect nearly every part and system of the patient’s body. However, there are many ways to administer ozone.

What does ozone do to the body?

Perhaps the biggest effect of ozone on the human body (when properly administered) is the reduction of mitochondrial suppression. Mitochondrial suppression is not the same as mitochondrial decay, which is a natural and unavoidable part of aging. Rather, mitochondrial suppression is what occurs when mitochondria (the building blocks of cells) aren’t getting enough oxygen. This is often the effect of illness. Ozone reacts with the cells of the body, the third oxygen atom modifying their molecular structure for improved oxidation. Oxygen is then able to better reach the mitochondria and optimize their function.

This is the ideal effect of systemic ozone administration (when performed intravenously or rectally), but it also serves a purpose when applied externally as a gas, a liquid, or even a gel, oil, cream or paste. Oxygenation is the keyword in these cases. In the same way that ozone is able to disinfect surfaces for the food service, it is able to disinfect and oxygenate wounds and burns. The oxygenating properties of ozone also have far-reaching implications for skincare and dental health.
